Forget about having your cake and eating too. The newest fad in cake town in having your face and eating it too. Before you start conjuring up gory images in your head, we’re only talking about the latest range of Photo Cakes at The French Loaf, in which you can have your choice of photo replicated on a cake.

Started about three months back at The French Loaf, the concept has already become quite a rage. City chef of the chain of confectioneries, Boopesh Pichaimani says, “This range is selling like hot cakes because you get to see your choice of picture replicated exactly on the cake. Customers provide us with highresolution images, either in a CD or pen-drive, or we scan a hardcopy, and they are loaded into the system. The image is then printed onto a wafer sheet using a special printer that has a cartridge with edible food colourants as ink,” he explains. The wafer sheet is then transferred to your cake of choice and topped off with a layer of fruit gel. This advanced technique ensures that what you see is what you get, and the clarity is almost faultless. The food colourants are 100 per cent safe and food-graded. “Also, these cakes can be made very fast; you can order in the morning and get them by the afternoon. And what are the most popular designs? “Group photos, birthday babies and even wedding couples. Of course, after the World Cup win, everyone wanted a cake with a picture of the cup!” concludes the chef.
